Beaches reopen today
Some good news for beach people in Norfolk and Hampton!
This morning, Buckroe Beach is back open. Tests had shown increased bacteria in the water.
New tests show the water is now safe.
The Buckroe Fishing Pier, which has been closed due to damage from Hurricane Irene, will open today as well.

Two more dead sea turtles wash ashore

On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 two dead adult sea turtles washed up on the beach at Southern Shores.
One was a leatherback turtle; the other a loggerhead turtle.
A necropsy was performed on the leatherback turtle by Karen Clark, Director of the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education.
No cause of death has been determined on either turtle yet.
Both turtles were properly disposed of by the Town of Southern Shores after study by turtle officials
