The mother of a local Marine killed in Afghanistan is taking action, helping other Marines serving overseas know they are loved and getting a taste of home.
Wendy Childers, a Chesapeake mother of a fallen Marine, founded an organization known as the LCpl. Cody S. Childers Memorial Fund in honor of her son who was killed in Afghanistan. Since then, Wendy has been very active in the community to not only keep her son's memory alive - but to help other Marines just like Cody who are serving.
"LCpl. Cody S. Childers was a 19-year-old United States Marine who was killed in Afghanistan in August, 2010. The Memorial Fund was created to honor Cody, and to keep his memory alive by sending care packages in his name to the deployed Marines that he loved; marines who were truly his brothers."
